How it all started

Moritz Kreppel, co-founder of Urban Sports Club, already knew Nawid Ali-Abbassi from HV Capital from the Berlin start-up scene. When HV Capital first met Moritz and his co-founder, Benjamin Roth, Urban Sports Club was an early-stage start-up. Their dream was to create a platform which would allow members to discover and do any type of sport at any time without borders across many European countries.

Moritz and Benjamin had created a new way of working out, exploring and finding new types of sport and studios. As a full-service provider for partners they wanted to let studios focus on what they love most: sports. They were about to prove that they would become Europe’s largest sports community. When Urban Sports Club acquired their competitor Somuchmore in 2016, David Kuczek became their partner and lead investor.

Nowadays, working out with Urban Sports Club has become the new status quo. Moritz Kreppel and Benjamin Roth founded Urban Sports Club in Berlin, Germany, in 2012. After two years of bootstrapping, the company secured early-stage financing in 2015 and went on to acquire other competitors across Europe. OneFit joined the Urban Sports Club family in August of 2019. Now, the Urban Sports Club network has more than 12,000 partners in six countries. Private and corporate customers can choose to train in studios, outdoors or online via livestream.

More than 400 employees work for the company. Urban Sports Club employs over 40 different nationalities in several locations across Europe. Moritz and Benjamin are still the CEOs of the company, actively managing day-to-day operations. They have also become business angels and mentors for other start-ups.

“We are partners and have always felt the support along the way.

Especially during difficult times such as the Covid-crisis.”
