Investment Manager

Born and raised in a small village called Gülzow, Jannis spent his early days playing and coaching the local soccer and tennis teams. A fortunate coincidence landed his 16-year-old self in a 4-week internship at a Berlin-based ticketing startup. The experience of leaving his hometown and spending a month in Germany's startup capital sparked his enthusiasm for entrepreneurship and tech at a young age. Jannis then decided to pursue this interest further at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management, where he later earned his bachelor's degree. From day one of his enrolment, Jannis worked hard to gain a foothold in the German startup ecosystem. To that end, he took part in multiple entrepreneurial initiatives and projects throughout his time at WHU.
Jannis started his professional career at the HV portfolio company Scalable Capital during the pre-product stage. Following his stint there, he went on to join the team of Hello Fresh in New York to work on optimizing their procurement strategies. After getting to know the operational side of a very young startup in high-growth mode, Jannis joined the investment world. After two initial internships at Headline and Index Ventures, he started as an investment analyst for Lakestar.

He contributed to several notable early- and growth-stage deals across Europe and had his first touchpoints with the HV Capital team. In February 2021, Jannis became an Associate for the Growth Team at HV Capital.

Looking back, Janis says: "Humility, proactive helpfulness, and gratitude have been the most important lessons I've learned in my career so far, and I believe these qualities are important at every stage of life."

Jannis perceives the daily work of a VC as one of the most encouraging and challenging things he has ever done: "Daily, you discuss new technologies, business models, and markets with a very nimble group of founders and colleagues."

During his free time, Jannis spends his time kitesurfing, playing tennis, and organizing short trips and events for his friends and family.
